About the speaker

After qualifying in 1988, Rachel worked as a staff nurse on the Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Royal Hospital for 18 months, followed by 5 years on a vascular surgery ward and 4 years on a general/ colorectal ward.

In 2000, Rachel set up the pre-operative assessment clinic for the colorectal/ general surgeons, assessing all patients admitted for elective surgery. During this time Rachel also managed the surgical outpatients nursing team.

In October 2008 Rachel was successful in obtaining the position of Enhanced Recovery Nurse, and during this time, has set up the enhanced recovery pathway at Salford Royal Hospital working with the Colorectal Team. Rachel continues to see all elective colorectal patients going through the Enhanced Recovery programme and supported the introduction in other specialties within the Trust.
